The Jacket

The jacket

You slid over

Your slender shoulders

And thin black dress

As we sat into

The late Friday night

In those big wicker chairs

Around the outside table

At Nesbitt’s,

The jacket

You snuggled into

As we chatted and sipped

 Real Earl Grey Tea with

The lawyer James

And your fellow Tom,

Chatted

About philosophies,

Liberal Arts, books,

Mystics and movies,

Sailing around the world,

Chatted like naive

University students until

The reality of the street came

Out of somewhere and we called

It a night,

The jacket

You wore in those

Wonderful keeper moments

Still exhales your perfume,

When I put it on it’s as if

You are wrapping your

Your slim body

 Around me.
