Free

We are as physically free

As our passports, licenses,

Documents, electronic devices

Allow us to be,

We are on the edge

Of it being hip

To be chipped,

No chip,

No trip,

Today they cancel

Passports,

Tomorrow,

 Deactivate

Chips.

At The Time

At the time

We didn’t have time

To take time,

To kick back,

To reflect and

Really enjoy

The time we

Were having,

The time we

Were in,

Funny thing

About time,

It slowly swallows

You in dozens of

Different ways.

Someone Said

Someone said,

China has a multi

Splitting head missile

That zips along at seven

Thousand miles an hour,

Russia and the U.S. are

Modernizing their weaponry,

Drones as small and fast

As hummingbirds,

Bacteria, viruses,

Silent noise machines,

What a brilliant bunch

We are,

Asteroid spittle from

A star,

Befuddled why our

Toys won’t run

When the sun spots

 Come.

Lottery

The day of the lottery

Started in the middle

Of Pacific storm fronts,

Wind and waves and rain

And more rain,

A muffin mix up,

Where is the goddess of

Muffinology when you need her,

A jammed gate and a quarter of a mile

Walk in the driving wetness of weather

That took drip dry to exalted levels,

A hot cappuccino and doubting

Thoughts about the wet

Ticket in my pocket.

Bent

We knew they were

Torturing,

But we kept our heads

Bent

And went our miserable ways

Muttering something about rumours,

When the Senate released

Their report we bent

Our heads a little

Lower

And went along mumbling

Something about

That’s war,

When John McCain

Spoke about dishonoring honor

We bent our heads

Still further

And every fucking worm

We passed rose up from the ground

Saying,

I thought humans had

Spines.
