In A Storm

Perhaps it’s the melancholy

Of a youth that’s past

That blasts as hard as

The storm blowing,

Perhaps knowing

That one day we

All must give up

The mast,

And yet there is

A joy in remembering,

A smile breaking

Watching two

Young lovers

Slip into their cabin,

Seemingly unaware of the

Howling wind and the seagulls

Crying.

Futility

We spoke about politics

And the way things

Are going,

How wealth is piling

Like a snowstorm blowing

At the feet of a few,

We spoke about governments

Their way of controlling,

We spoke about fears

With a sense of knowing

There’s little we can do.

Crossfires

Some days on the dock

You are caught in the crossfires

Of dreams and thoughts

Of those dreaming of

A bigger boat.

Another boat,

Dreams and thoughts

Of heading into blue water,

Coming to terms

With the realization

They have to sell their boat,

Much like those searching

For their other half,

Going and coming

From bed to bed,

Filling the singles

Bars and places with

Crossfires.

Culture

On Tuesday nights

In winter

People gathered

At the old theatre

To watch obscure

Foreign films,

I never could

Get into that,

It’s always much more

Rewarding and educational

To get into a real live foreigner

And learn first hand,,hands on about

The thoughts and secrets of old world

Culture.

Weathered Face

From behind a weathered face

He said,

If you can escape the web

Of money, power, control,

In any of their degrees,

If you can escape the addiction

To religion and politics

In any of their disguises,

If you can love the world

And those caught in the web,

Those suffering their addictions,

Love and see them for what they are,

An energy, a peace, a calmness

That you can’t explain or understand

Will come to you.
