Looking For A Leader

Thinking about the coming

Canadian election,

Oil prices in the toilet

Our dollar at eighty cents,

Inflation and unemployment

Knocking,

Wars and strife all around,

Who is a leader who might

Lead us through,

One who talks but no walk,

One who hides behind protocol,

Governor General’s skirts,

And in closets,

Or one who stands up

In the front,

Puts himself on the line,

Has guts, brains and courage.

Off Of My Mind

I’m not sure

If it’s because of Venus

Hanging from the crescent moon,

The haunting piano,

The sentimental sax,

But it’s one of

Those long days

  I can’t get you off

Of my mind,

Perhaps it’s the

Consequence,

The price of love itself,

Maybe we were lovers

Back in the days when

The music was live,

I can hear you say

That was then but this is now

And still somehow

I can’t get you

Off of my mind.

Stranded

Politics and politicians

Leave you standing,

Scratching your head,

Stranded,

A stranger in your

Own country,

From

Strip searching a

Fifteen year old

Girl in school

To Bill 51,

Eroding more

Privacy and freedom

To protect us from whatever,

It is illegal to walk in a protest

With your face covered,

And yet,

Some can swear their

Oath of citizenship with a covered face,

Politics and politicians

Leave you

Stranded.

Where Pieces Fall

At times the

Dance of romance

Appeared confusing,

Different dancers jostling

To different tunes,

Some looking to

Get lucky one more time,

Some looking for a bank account,

Ever the clinking of shields

Of those worrying about gold diggers

And those not wanting to get screwed

For a free super,

Every now and again

A couple saying what the hell,

Let the hormones fly where they will

Let’s take a spill and see where the

The pieces fall.
