Those Who Would Lead Us

Those who would lead us,

Are they really leaders

Or simply pompous puppets

Of the wealthy establishment,

Enamored with self- perceived prestige,

Travel perks and a piece of the public purse,

Those who would lead us,

What have they done,

What have they built,

What have they accomplished,

Are they really leaders

Or simply polished,

Glib, political illusionists

Adept at making real leaders

Seem less than what they really are.

Rolled On

Months rolled on

Interrupted by the appointed

Holidays that created long weekends

For those in government or union jobs,

But for the unemployed and part timers

Who’s hours were rigged to create ineligibility

For statuary holiday benefits,

Months simply rolled on.

Dogs

Sitting in the pre-spring sun

Sipping sweetened

Black coffee,

The old man said,.

The problem with the world

Is a misunderstanding

Of a fundamental

Principle of dogs,

Does the dog wag the tail

Or does the tail wag the dog.

Exposed

The puppeteers exposed

Carry on as if still

Hidden behind

The curtain,

The trailing politicians

Like Saddam’s man

In a bunker with

A camera,

Claim victory is on its way,

Another suicide bomber

Somewhere separating

Their atoms,

Where does all of this

Crazy madness

Find you,

Still clinging to the illusions,

Still clinging to the fact that

The Canucks are not

Yet mathematically

Eliminated.
